Volunteer Collections Assistants support behind-the-scenes work at the High Prairie Museum by helping with collections cataloguing, data entry, and research.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys local history, careful detail-oriented work, and learning more about how museum collections are documented, organized, and preserved for the community.
This volunteer role is best suited to someone who is able to commit to a regular schedule of at least three hours per week and has basic computer skills and attention to detail. For those working directly with the collection, the ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs is necessary.
Program Assistants help bring the High Prairie Museum to life by supporting school programs, public programs, events, and hands-on visitor activities.
This flexible role can be shaped around a volunteer’s interests and may include welcoming groups, assisting with activities, helping with event setup, supporting family programs, or contributing ideas for new ways to engage the community.
This role is best suited to volunteers who are interested in helping on an occasional or as-needed basis. Opportunities may be connected to school visits, public programs, community events, or special activities, and may take place during weekdays, evenings, or weekends.
Visitor Services Assistants help create a welcoming experience for museum visitors by supporting information services, the museum shop, and front desk operations.
This role may include greeting visitors, answering basic questions, assisting with retail sales, sharing information about High Prairie and the surrounding region, and helping visitors find their way through the museum. Volunteers in this role should be comfortable learning and using a point-of-sale system.
This role is best suited to volunteers who are able to support visitor services through a regular three- to four-hour shift, either on a consistent weekly schedule or as scheduled to help fill coverage gaps during opening hours.

The Town of High Prairie acknowledges Treaty 8 territory, the ancestral and traditional territory of the Cree, Dene and Métis. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples whose footsteps have marked these lands for generations, including the many places you are joining us from. We are grateful for the many Traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. Our recognition of this land is an act of reconciliation and an expression of our gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, or are visiting.
