The Woodland Dairy, locally known as “the Creamery” was one of High Prairie’s earliest businesses. This photo shows it on July 10, 1928.
In early 1939, the Woodland Dairy in High Prairie had been purchased by Emil Breitkreitz for the purpose setting up a flour and grist mill, but had difficulties financing his project. Sheridan Lawrence, with his daughter living in High Prairie, bought a half interest in the mill in summer 1939. By the end of that winter, he purchased it outright. The Sheridan Lawrence & Sons mill operated for only a short period of time, before it was closed and Sheridan Lawrence and his wife Juey returned to Peace River by 1942.
